The Fort Lewis College men's Cross Country team has an appointment with destiny this weekend.

The squad will compete in the the NCAA Division II National Championships after capturing a 6th place finish at the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals, in Denver, on Nov. 3, qualifying the team for the national championships for just the second time ever — and the first time since 1995.

"That's pretty sweet," said first-year Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ¸ßÇåÎÞשÂëÇøhead coach Mark Dutro. "They've been ready and focused. They knew what they needed to do and just ran well."

Senior Kip Mutai led the team into their spot for a shot at the national title at Southern Missouri State University, in Joplin, Missouri, on Saturday. Mutai ran the 10 km course at the Regionals in 32:53, good for 15th place overall. He also earned All-South Central Region honors for his Top 15 finish.

"He just went for it," said Dutro.

And now the Skyhawks get to go for it, too.
