About Dr. Laura Scull

Laura Scull is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Fort Lewis College. She joined the college in 2008. Scull’s current research focuses on orbifolds, geometric objects with singularities that arise in both geometry and physics. Scull is studying how these objects can be represented using techniques from algebra, geometry and category theory. She has supervised numerous undergraduate research projects at Fort Lewis College, and she presents her own research regularly at national and international conferences. She has served as the co-organizer of the Department of Mathematics’ Math Camp, organizer of the Mathematics Department Colloquium Talk Series, and on a number of college-wide committees and councils.

Prior to joining the faculty at Fort Lewis College, Scull was an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia and the University of Michigan. She has served as a journal referee for the Journal of Geometry and Physics and the Arabian Journal of Science and Technology, as well as a reviewer for Zentralblatt MATH
